Frequently
Asked Questions
Where can I
buy the emulator?
You can
buy the emulator from our online shop
here
Someone told
me that I need to have the head unit re-coded using a
scan tool when installing a CD Changer. Is this
necessary to get my emulator to work?
No. In theory, Volkswagen's head units
could ignore a CD Changer based on the scan tool coding,
but in practice we've never seen a head unit do so.
I have installed my
emulator, and the head unit says "No CD Changer."
Make sure
you made the head unit cable correctly. You should be
able to use a voltmeter to detect power from the head
unit when the head unit is turned on. You need to
extract your head unit and plug in again the blue mini-iso
connector for the CD Changer.
Make sure
you have connected the ground wire to a suitable ground,
usually use the head unit housing.
I'm using an Apple
iPod and I'm hearing a background noise when the engine
is on.
The head units need a higher amplitude
signal compared to your earphones. If your Ipod or other
player provides a low voltage audio signal (this is the
case most of the time), you have to turn the volume up
higher than normal at the head unit to hear it. This
will amplify background noise picked up between the head
unit and your player that you don't want amplified. The
emulator is using two filters in order to avoid this: a
ferrite bead and a capacitive filter.
Why can I not see
the ID3 information to display at the head unit? Is
there a way to display it?
There does not appear to be any way to
send text data to the factory fit head unit display from
the CD Changer data lines. The display will only display
"CD 01 TR01." Your external player is connected only
using your audio connection.
